Bristol Medical Imaging Partners was founded in 2008 by a group of Consultant Radiologists who shared a common belief: that patients deserved better access to expert private imaging in Bristol — delivered with the same rigour and subspecialist depth as the best academic NHS centres.
Today we are a partnership of five highly experienced Consultant Radiologists, each holding senior posts at North Bristol NHS Trust (Southmead Hospital) alongside their private practice. This dual clinical commitment keeps our skills sharp and our standards high.
We deliberately remain an independent partnership rather than a corporate entity. This means that every scan we read is personally reported by a named, accountable consultant — the person whose name is at the bottom of your report is the person who read it.
To provide swift, highly accurate private medical imaging, reported to the highest consultant standard, to patients across Bristol and the South West.
Unlike corporate imaging providers, we are owned and operated by our five consultant partners. There are no external shareholders — only radiologists who care deeply about the quality of every report. We perform clinical work based at Spire and Nuffield hospital Bristol but we are clinicians independent of these hospitals. Your chosen hospital will handle bookings, general administration, and billing for your scan.
Every report is signed by a named Consultant Radiologist who personally reviewed your images — not a remote reporting service or registrar.
We understand that waiting for results is stressful. We aim to deliver formal written reports within 24–48 hours of your scan in most cases.
Several of our consultants hold postgraduate fellowships from leading institutions in the UK, Canada and the USA in subspecialist imaging areas.
We practice at Spire Bristol (Redland Hill) and Nuffield Health Bristol (Clifton Hill) — two of the city's leading private hospitals, with excellent facilities and parking.
All our consultants hold substantive NHS consultant posts, ensuring our private practice reflects the same clinical rigour as the best NHS academic centres.
Our consultants are not only practising radiologists — they are active contributors to medical education and the wider radiology profession.
Dr Paul McCoubrie serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol and as Training Programme Director for the Severn Deanery Postgraduate School of Radiology. Dr Mark Thornton also holds an Honorary Senior Lectureship at Bristol and serves as Deputy Head of Radiology Training.
Dr Douglas Kopcke is the Radiology Lead for the South-West UK Prostate Working Group. Dr Shoba Philip completed a prestigious fellowship in abdominal and pelvic imaging at the University of Toronto. Dr Ali Vosough undertook a Toronto fellowship in abdominal and pelvic imaging following postgraduate training at Imperial College London.

Royal College of Radiologists: All our consultants hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) — the UK's benchmark qualification for specialist radiologists.
